Crescent German Sword, 12thC
Crescent-pommel German sword, 12th century, inspired by original examples from European museums.
Dark brown grip with 3 risers.
A very light and maneuverable sword, reflecting many important and significant features of this characteristic group of swords.
The light weight of this sword perfectly reflects the weight range of original swords of this type.
The sword is very comfortable, with a short, tight grip that provides good support on the pommel.
Many examples of original swords from this period feature a long, straight crossguard, sometimes extremely long, up to around 300mm. This crossguard is of this type, measuring 265mm. Such a long crossguard, in addition to providing protection for the hand and wrist, could have served as a secondary close-range weapon.
This pommel shape is one of the most distinctive, though not dominant, of the 12th century. Its specific crescent shape with sharp ends also made it ideal as a blunt weapon in close combat.
Measurements:
total length 970mm
bladse length 835mm
blade width 52mm
grip 96mm
crossguard 265mm

balance 45mm
weight 1005g
Note: This sword, like any handcrafted sword in the medieval style, can have traces of the manufacturing process, minor irregularities or asymmetries resulting from the specificity of real craftsmanship and medieval understanding of aesthetics, that are completely normal and do not affect the quality of the sword, but give it a unique original character, consistent with medieval objects of the same kind.
