German Heavy Longsword, 14thC
German Heavy Longsword with cross inlays, late 14th century, inspired by original examples and historical sources. Black grip color.
The perfect representation for this group of swords: a massive stiff blade, reinforced by a specific hexagonal cross-section, a massive straight crossguard with octagonal flared ends, a pommel with brass-inlaid crosses and peen-block.
This is an example representing a truly large group of 14th century swords, one of the most heavy ones known in this 'family'. It is designed for heavy, strong cuts and thrust, fight against an armoured opponent. Moreover, this weight range reflects originals in this group of swords. They often weighed more 2 kg.

This style and type of sword was quite common in 14th century Europe, but is best known from the manufacturing center of Passau (present-day Germany), where a multitude of similar blades were created. Visually and typologically, it also clearly refers to German swords and styling.

Note: This sword, like any handcrafted sword in the medieval style, can have traces of the manufacturing process, minor irregularities or asymmetries resulting from the specificity of real craftsmanship and medieval understanding of aesthetics, that are completely normal and do not affect the quality of the sword, but give it a unique original character, consistent with medieval objects of the same kind.
