Metmuseum Passau Longsword 2
Passau Longsword, 15th century, inspired by original sword in Metmuseum, NY.
This would be a fairly typical Oakeshott Type XVIa sword, somewhat similar in blade to the sword in the museum in Brescia, Italy. On the fuller blade, there are engraved in thin lines the symbols of a wolf or unicorn in the style known from the Passau workshops, and above it probably the letters T and A. However, with its crossguard and rainguard and their construction, this is certainly a unique sword.
My version of this sword reflects the dimensions and weight of the original, but some of the elements of the hilt are a kind of interpretation.
The blade of the sword is stiff and pointed, the whole thing well balanced, the hilt comfortable.
The scabbard of this sword, according to the owner's wishes, is dedicated to the Teutonic Order. In the middle is the cross of the order, with gilded arms and an eagle in the middle. All leather is black.
Measurements:
total length 1225mm
bladse length 925mm
blade width 54mm
grip 225mm
crossguard 250mm
pommel 59x17mm
balance 85mm
weight 1660g
Note: This sword, like any handcrafted sword in the medieval style, can have traces of the manufacturing process, minor irregularities or asymmetries resulting from the specificity of real craftsmanship and medieval understanding of aesthetics, that are completely normal and do not affect the quality of the sword, but give it a unique original character, consistent with medieval objects of the same kind.
