Norman Crusader Sword, 12thC
Norman Sword / Crusader Sword, 12th century, inspired by original examples from European museums.
Black grip.
A classic and distinctive type of sword, many of which can be found in European museums, dating from around 1050-1200. They are also found in numerous historical sources from the Crusades period. This sword, with its rather long and relatively narrow blade, is (like most swords in this group) very light, has a short hilt, and a tip that is not very pointed. The crossguard is slightly curved, inspired by similar examples. The characteristic mushroom-shaped pommel, also known as a 'Brazil nut,' provides good support for the hand. Most of these pommel designs were lightweight and compact, and many were partially hollow. The balance of these swords is shifted slightly forward, oscillating between 12 and 22 cm from the crossguard, in this case 15 cm. Such a sword is excellent for sweeping cuts and is also a versatile weapon. They were most often used with a large shield. These swords were largely used by cavalry, but they were equally effective in infantry combat. The light and agile sword had many advantages that were utilized during skirmishes and battles in the Holy Land during the Crusades. However, such swords were, of course, equally popular throughout Europe in the 12th century, which is why we find them practically everywhere in this geographical area.

Note: This sword, like any handcrafted sword in the medieval style, can have traces of the manufacturing process, minor irregularities or asymmetries resulting from the specificity of real craftsmanship and medieval understanding of aesthetics, that are completely normal and do not affect the quality of the sword, but give it a unique original character, consistent with medieval objects of the same kind.
