Passau Longsword with cross inlays, 14thC
Passau Longsword with cross inlays, 14th century, inspired by original examples and historical sources. Dark brown grip color.
The perfect representation for this group of swords: a massive blade, reinforced by a specific hexagonal cross-section, a massive straight crossguard, a pommel with brass-inlaid crosses, a peen-block brass. This is an example representing a truly large group of 14th century swords. The blade is stiff and the massive pommel provides an excellent counterweight, which means that the sword can be used with one or both hands equally well, despite its considerable weight. Moreover, this weight range is typical for this group of swords. They often weighed almost 2 kg. This was caused by a thick, wide blade with a reinforced cross-section. In this case, we have a sword with average parameters in this group, which may date it to the years 1320-1370. A very good long sword with excellent handling ensuring full control of the blade.
Dark brown scabbard and brown belts with brass fittings and chape.
On the scabbard latin inscription 'Sancte Michael Ora Pro Nonis' (Saint Michael Pray For Us) painted with gold.
