Protector Crucifer, early 14thC
'Protector Crucifer', early 14th century, inspired by original examples from European museums.
Dark brown grip, brass pommel with brass inserts.
This design combines features of my earlier 'Protector' project and several 14th-century light longsword concepts, with references to the symbolism of the knight's cross in the pommel inserts.
The sword is light and agile, especially in either hand. The blade has good stiffness while maintaining a low weight and balance close to the crossguard. The round pommel and tight two-handed grip also provide powerful cuts and excellent control along the entire length of the blade. This sword can be used equally freely with just one hand.
Scabbard
Dark brown leather with black belts. Decorated brass fittings on the belt. On the scabbard latin inscription painted with gold: 'Lux Vincit Tenebras' (Light Conquers Darkness).
Measurements:
total length 1130mm
bladse length 895mm
blade width 54mm
grip 175mm
crossguard 187mm
pommel 55x30mm
balance 55mm
weight 1300g
Note: This sword, like any handcrafted sword in the medieval style, can have traces of the manufacturing process, minor irregularities or asymmetries resulting from the specificity of real craftsmanship and medieval understanding of aesthetics, that are completely normal and do not affect the quality of the sword, but give it a unique original character, consistent with medieval objects of the same kind.
