Veteran Sword, early 14thC
Crusader Veteran, late 13th / early 14th century, inspired by original examples and historical sources. Black grip, brass pommel with inserts.
This sword is heavily inspired by manuscript swords from Western Europe from the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Especially the late 13th century French manuscript Arthurian Romances shows a lot of swords of this type: wide, pointed blade, massive one handed sword with slightly curved guard and golden pommel. As this is the end of the Crusades period, the last days of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, it has beautiful inserts in the pommel, with the Jerusalem cross.
The sword is massive and very stiff. It is ideal for both heavy cutting and stabbing.
This sword could have belonged to a Crusader veteran or it could have been a status symbol, referring to the period of glory.

Note: This sword, like any handcrafted sword in the medieval style, can have traces of the manufacturing process, minor irregularities or asymmetries resulting from the specificity of real craftsmanship and medieval understanding of aesthetics, that are completely normal and do not affect the quality of the sword, but give it a unique original character, consistent with medieval objects of the same kind.
