Viking Sword Type X, 10thC
Viking Era Sword, late 10th century, inspired by original examples from European museums.
Dark brown grip with risers.
This is Petersen Type X sword, very light and quite short.
The sword is very agile and and very well captures the features of similar swords from the period.
The large semicircular pommel provides good support for the hand, the grip of the hilt is tight (93mm) and reflects the scope of many original swords of similar proportions.
Pommel is oriented asymmetrically on two axes, as are most original examples.
Swords of this type appear in the 10th century and remain quite popular for the next several decades in various typological variants.
On the scabbard, embossed motifs inspired by Scandinavian and Slavic art from the 10th-11th century. The shape of the belt is adapted to be worn on the hip or baldric. Bronze fittings.
